international standards called the Special Recommendations on Terrorist Financing. In implementing the new action plan, FATF will intensify its cooperation with the FATF-style regional bodies and international organizations that support and contribute to the international effort against money laundering and terrorist financing. FATF also agreed to consider the Special Recommendations as it revises its Forty Recommendations on Money Laundering and to intensify its work on corporate vehicles, correspondent banking, identification of beneficial owners of accounts, and regulation of nonbank financial institutions.  

FATF has formulated additional guidance on the techniques and mechanisms used in the financing of terrorism. FATF’s “Report on Money Laundering Typologies Report 2001-2002” and “Guidance for Financial Institutions in Detecting Terrorist Financing” were issued in February 2002 and April 2002, respectively.
